Slowing Down vs. Stopping

A Little Humor
Learning The Hard Way

Gloria is a motorcycle cop in eastern Washington State. She tells this story:

I was on routine patrol watching an intersection when a red Jag approached the four-way stop. The driver slowed, but didn’t stop.

I pulled him over.

He rolled down the window and said, “Here’s my registration, insurance, and driving license. I should warn you, I’m a pretty well-known lawyer in Hollywood and I haven’t paid a traffic ticket yet. What are you accusing me of doing?”

“You didn’t stop at the stop sign.”

“Well, I slowed down, and no one was coming.”

“You rolled through that stop sign and you’re getting a ticket,” she said.

“Hah! If you can show me the difference between slowing down and stopping, I’ll pay the fine.”

So she told him to get out of his car and whacked his shins with my nightstick. “Okay. Do you want me to stop or just slow down?”
